Start with the problem, not the product
A window that is hard to open does not automatically need to be replaced. The same is true for damaged glass, worn hardware or localized frame deterioration. The right decision begins with identifying what is actually failing.
1. The glass is foggy between the panes
Moisture or haze trapped between panes usually points to a failed insulated glass seal. If the frame and sash are otherwise sound, replacing the glass unit may be enough.
2. The window no longer opens or locks correctly
Operation problems can come from hardware, alignment, balance systems or frame movement. Some of these issues can be repaired; widespread deterioration may make replacement more practical.
3. You feel drafts around the opening
Drafts can come from failed weatherstripping, installation gaps or aging components. An inspection can help separate a repairable air leak from a window that has reached the end of its useful life.
4. The frame shows rot, swelling or significant damage
Small localized areas may be repairable. Extensive moisture damage, repeated repairs or structural deterioration are stronger reasons to consider replacement.
5. The glass is cracked or broken
Broken glass is often a glass-replacement issue rather than a full-window issue. The surrounding frame and operating parts should still be checked before deciding.
6. Several windows have the same recurring problems
When many windows are failing in similar ways, replacing them as a group can sometimes be more efficient than repairing them one by one.
7. Comfort, efficiency or appearance is the bigger goal
If the main objective is a broader upgrade — better comfort, easier operation or a different look — replacement may make more sense even when the existing window can technically be repaired.
A practical next step
Have the opening inspected before assuming that replacement is the only answer. Orion evaluates the condition of the glass, frame, hardware and installation so homeowners can compare practical options before moving forward.
